HELLO! It’s hard to believe that it’s been a week since we have been home from Florida and what a week it’s been. I got back and jumped into projects, meetings, teaching and teacher training. It’s been a great week but a busy one.
I spent pretty much the entirety of my weekend leading the 200-hour yoga teacher training that I am running for VIBE5. We covered a ton of ground including lots of practice teaching, lots of yoga practice, a deep dive into hips and hamstrings (I have soooo much to say about this topic in regards to yoga), a gust presenter on Ayurveda, lecture and discussion on sequencing best practices and learning my favorite goddess mantra. We ended our training weekend with a Yin yoga practice led by my friend Jess who joined us via Zoom.
That Yin class was EXACTLY what I needed after a nonstop week and a packed weekend of YTT. I couldn’t ask for a better way to end the week and weekend…and I almost skipped it. My initial plan was to go run errands while the TTs were with Jess but I just couldn’t shake this gut feeling that my butt needed to be on my yoga mat, slowing down and doing the Yin practice with my TTs. I’m so glad I listened to it because I needed that stillness and space.
If you’ve never taken a Yin class, it’s a slow-paced yoga class where postures are held for longer periods of time. Today we held the postures we were in anywhere from 3-5 minutes. Our 75-minute practice included a heart/upper back opener, dragon (low) lunge, sleeping swan (pigeon), sphinx, half shoelace, child’s pose with lateral stretch, a myofascial release for the neck, supine twisting and savasana.
This weekend was the halfway mark for our training. I can’t tell you how wonderful it’s been to be a part of this training and to be on this journey with such an amazing small group of women! <3
It was the best feeling to come home tonight to this sweet face…and my mama! She’s still with us in Charlotte and helped out with Finn this afternoon while I was in TT. While Finn and I do perfectly well with just the two of us, it is so nice to have another adult in the house for company and backup. I’ve enjoyed spending the last two weeks with my mom.
When my mom visits there is always dessert involved. This is a preach praline pie from The Fresh Market and as of tonight, we successfully finished the whole thing between the two of us (with ice cream of course).
And a final note from the weekend, I went through a lot of Finn’s baby stuff and gave it away to other moms in my neighborhood today. This included clothes, crib sheets, bath towels, bibs, infant toys, swaddles, breastfeeding supplies and more. I had moved it all into his closet after he outgrew it. As I moved the clothes into the closet, I sorted them into a keep bin and giveaway bags. Well, my keep bin was gigantic and overflowing and it just doesn’t make sense at this time to hold onto all of it. I allowed myself to set aside a few special things but had to really toughen up to say goodbye to most of it. Good thing my mom was here for some emotional support (I’m kidding and also not kidding all at the same time).
I love my neighborhood and it’s been a safe haven for me and Finn over these last two years. We have such an awesome community of moms who are always helping each other out so I’m glad that I could pass our baby stuff along to another family.
My baby boy is now a full-fledged toddler and a little person of his own but I’ve truly enjoyed each stage of Finn’s development. I feel so lucky every day to be his mom. It’s the best job I’ve ever had!
With that, I am off to read in bed. I am almost through 28 Summers and have such mixed feelings about it.
